MPI NL conference in Bussum: Friday February 2nd 2007 Report by Ilse Matthé
Congress centre Spant! in Bussum hosted 200 participants of this year’s MPI NL congress: a record. Event managers gathered with all thinkable suppliers of location, concept, technology, speakers… The theme of the fifth MPI congress was “Dare to be professional!”. The organisers dared the delegates to go beyond their limits: in knowledge and contacts, but also on personal fields. Each delegate could chose between a variety of workshops beforehand.
The Meeting Support Institute Learning Lab had 18 pre-registrations. On the day itself however we did not have enough chairs to seat all. About 30 people listened to our presentation.

Rob Davidson of the University of Westminster opened the conference with his vision on the developments in the congress industry. Davidson visited our workshop and was very enthusiastic about the Meeting Support Institute. He even suggested doing a summer school on Meeting Support!

Format of a Learning Lab:
The 90 min session has a theoretical and conceptual part of 30 min where meeting planners get new ideas and views on the way they can organize or help organize meetings and events; a short introduction to the Meeting Support Institute included. The second part introduces and demonstrates for 30min new tools and technologies to apply in this new kind of meetings. We close our session by listening to the experiences and questions of the attendees and by concluding with a concrete message. Today we did not have the chance to go to the last section of the workshop due to an extended presentation of the first part and a longer demonstration of the tools. |
