subtitle:
The Future of Facilitation
facilitator guides group processes to bring forth the expertise already existent in the group. In doing so, the facilitator seeks to strengthen groups by allowing them to perceive and discipline their unique strengths and weaknesses. The nature of the service the facilitator offers is catalytic. For both the facilitator and the coach, it is the performance of the client(s) that is the subject of their intervention. This involves a detailed focus on the way individuals and groups interact.Facilitation focuses primarily on processes in which information is exchanged among the participants in a group. The facilitator 'eases' this exchange, using structured techniques and communication skills. The facilitator knows how to draw the answers out of those who know them best - the people doing the job. The facilitator asks questions, guides a group to consensus, and uses information to demonstrate the need for action.
